Our Founder
Fenella Lockyer founded Portfolio London with a simple belief: that commissioning fine art should feel personal, exciting, and entirely within reach.
Her interest in art began in childhood, inspired by the imaginative worlds of Beatrix Potter and Ernest H. Shepard. She went on to study History at the university before beginning a career in financial services, though a longstanding interest in fine art never left her; a period of study in portraiture at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence ultimately led her to establish Portfolio London.
Today, Fenella works closely with both artists and clients throughout the commissioning journey, from selecting the right artist and developing the vision, through to the creation and delivery of the finished piece. This close involvement has given her a particular perspective on the relationship between artist, sitter and patron, and on the enduring role fine art plays in commemorating history, identity and character; a perspective recently explored in The Times Luxury.
Mission
At Portfolio London, we bring together exceptional talent with contemporary nuance, creating timeless works that continue to delight our clients. Many have trained at the world's foremost institutions, including Charles H. Cecil Studios and London Fine Art Studios, and have gone on to work and exhibit internationally.
Vision
Our vision is simple; to ensure every commissioned piece of art holds something of the person, or place, at its heart; a likeness, yes, but also a warmth and character that photographs alone cannot capture. From composition to medium to framing, we support our clients closely throughout, building relationships that last long after the commission itself has gone to its new home.
Process
No two commissions are the same, and we will always adapt to suit your preferences. Our artists are based across Britain and are happy to meet their subjects where possible, working from life, from photographs or a combination of both. Commissions can take place from the comfort of your home, en plein air, or in one of our studios.
