Children's Portrait Commissions
Portfolio London represents a number of wonderful artists who effortlessly capture the charm and personality of children in portraiture.
Charcoal and pencil are popular for classic head and shoulder portraits, with oil and acrylic perfect for capturing a family, outdoor or home setting. It's wonderful capturing children at the different stages as they grow up, particularly for those returning to commission a new portrait for birthdays or to include a new sibling.

OIL AND ACRYLIC COMMISSIONS
Greater depth and colour.
Oil and acrylic bring a greater depth and colour, and lend themselves particularly well to outdoor and home settings, as well as larger family pieces.

THE COMMISSION
Capture their personalities.
As sitting still for hours is rarely a child's idea of a good afternoon, children's portraits are always painted from photographs rather than from life.
Where possible, we like to visit you at home first: meeting your children, getting to know their personalities, and taking our own photographs to work from. We are equally happy to work from your own existing photographs, or a combination of both. We find this is particularly helpful for bringing siblings, cousins, or family members based in different parts of the world into a single piece.
The home visit tends to be a highlight in itself; a relaxed, unhurried afternoon getting to know your artist, with no requirement for anyone to sit still or pose.
Children's portraits rarely stand alone, either. Many families begin with a single pencil portrait of one child, and go on to commission a portrait of each sibling as they grow, or a combined piece bringing cousins together from across the country. However the collection builds, a portrait that captures a child at a particular age, in a particular year, is something families return to again and again.
Family photographs are precious, but they rarely make it further than a phone or an album. A painted portrait does not; it becomes a cherished piece your family keeps and hands down.

CHARCOAL, PASTEL AND PENCIL COMMISSIONS
A lightness all of its own.
Charcoal and pencil portraits are delicate and intimate mediums that capture fine details and expressions with a lightness all of its own.

SIBLINGS & COUSINS COMMISSIONS
Family bonds
Sibling and cousin portraits bring together the expressions, gestures and family resemblances that children share, whether created as one group portrait or as a series of individual pieces designed to sit together.

The Commission Process
