Representing a hugely talented array of fine artists, adult portrait commissions can be undertaken entirely from life (in our studios or at your home), entirely from photographs or a combination of both.
Depending on the style and artist preferred, Portfolio London tailors the whole experience to suit you. We organise all sittings around your schedules and availability, and help make sure the work is completed before any important dates. Depending on the artist, medium and style, a typical head and shoulders portrait in oil can take between 3 to 5 sittings, and larger portraits anywhere between 7 to 10. Portraits rarely stand alone. Many of our clients begin their art legacy with a single commission, perhaps as a wedding day gift or important birthday, and then go on to build a small collection across a family. Some choose for their husbands, wives, and children to be captured in the same hand and style; others choose artists to match the energy of the sitter. Few things are as rewarding as being trusted to find the right artist and approach for each commission; helping families build a collection that grows more meaningful with every piece.
Sitting for a commissioned fine art portrait painted from life is a unique and hugely special part of the experience. Many of our artists paint in the tradition of the Old Masters, and work entirely from natural light. Sittings are always great fun, and frequently feature pots of tea and many a chocolate based treat.
CHARCOAL COMMISSIONS
Quiet, intimate, timeless.
Charcoal is a quieter and more intimate alternative to oil. It is expressive, immediate, and particularly suited to a more informal or contemporary portrait.
